Return to Connectivity

Resiliency

The DfE Digital and Technology Standards state that schools should have a backup connection. A backup connection will prevent you from a fault with the internet service as well as a router failure. The primary and secondary connections should be delivered via different telcos and this is for added resilience.

We can only deliver our service over what infrastructure is locally available so the best thing to do is to contact us, and we can then analyse your area and provide recommendations. Schools can have a copper or fibre line as their backup connection. Or failing that, it may have to be a 4G service.

The backup solution will automatically fail over using VRRP in the event of a router failure or internet circuit fault to their primary connection. It will be designed in such a way that any brief internet flaps will not result in the constant failing over between the two connections. All existing services from the primary link will continue to work on the backup circuit. From a functionality perspective, schools would not even realise the service has failed over, except for the fact that there may be a brief drop while the service fails over/and that the school will be be running on a different (reduced) bandwidth
